End the delusion of time.
Time and mind are inseparable.

Remove time from the mind and it stops – unless you choose to use it. To be identified with your mind is to be trapped in time: the compulsion to live almost exclusively through memory and anticipation.

Time isn’t precious at all because it is an illusion.
What you perceive as precious is not time but the one point that is out of time: the Now

The more focused you are on time – past and future – the more you miss the Now. The eternal present is the space within which your whole life unfolds, the one factor that remains constant.

Theologian James Fowler a Professor of Theology and Human Development at Emory University and director of both the Center for Research on Faith and Moral Development and the Center for Ethics is best known for his book Stages of Faith

There are six stages as follows…

Stage 1 – “Intuitive-Protective” faith (ages of three to seven), is characterized by the psyche’s unprotected exposure to the Unconscious, and marked by a relative fluidity of thought patterns. Religion is learned mainly through experiences, stories, images, and the people that one comes in contact with.

Stage 2 – “Mythic-Literal” faith (mostly in school children), stage two persons have a strong belief in the justice and reciprocity of the universe, and their deities are almost always anthropomorphic. During this time metaphors and symbolic language are often misunderstood and are taken literally.

Stage 3 – “Synthetic-Conventional” faith (arising in adolescence; aged 12 to adulthood) characterized by conformity to authority and the religious development of a personal identity. Any conflicts with one’s beliefs are ignored at this stage due to the fear of threat from inconsistencies.

Stage 4 – “Individuative-Reflective” faith (usually mid-twenties to late thirties) a stage of angst and struggle. The individual takes personal responsibility for his or her beliefs and feelings. As one is able to reflect on one’s own beliefs, there is an openness to a new complexity of faith, but this also increases the awareness of conflicts in one’s belief.

Stage 5 – “Conjunctive” faith (mid-life crisis) acknowledges paradox and transcendence relating reality behind the symbols of inherited systems. The individual resolves conflicts from previous stages by a complex understanding of a multidimensional, interdependent “truth” that cannot be explained by any particular statement.

Stage 6 – “Universalizing” faith, or what some might call “enlightenment”. The individual would treat any person with compassion as he or she views people as from a universal community, and should be treated with universal principles of love and justice.

The reason why some people love to engage in dangerous activities is that it forces them into the Now – that intensely alive state that is free of time, free of problems, free of thinking, free of the burden of responsibility. Unfortunately, they come to depend on that particular activity to be in that state. You don’t need to climb the north face of the Eiger, you can enter that state now. Since ancient times, spiritual masters of all traditions have pointed to the Now as the key to the spiritual dimension. Despite this, it seems to have remained a secret.

No one seems to realize that entering the state of now can bring about a profound inner transformation. The whole essence of Zen consists in walking along the razor’s edge of Now. In the Now, in the absence of time, all your problems dissolve. Suffering needs time; it cannot survive in the now. Great Zen masters, in order to take students attention away from time, ask; ‘What at this moment is lacking’ It is designed to take your attention deeply into Now. Another similar question in the Zen tradition is this: ”If not now, when’ Rumi the great Sufi teacher declares: ‘Past and future veil God from our sight; burn up both of them with fire.’ Time is what keeps the light from reaching us. There is no greater obstacle to God than time. –The Power of Now/Eckhart Tolle p.42-44.

The awareness of Being becomes part of your perception. With the timeless dimension comes a different kind of knowing. A knowing that does not destroy the sacredness and mystery of life but contains a deep love and reverence for all that is. A single experience is not enough: What is needed and what we are concerned with is a permanent shift in consciousness. So break the old pattern of present-moment denial and present-moment resistance. Make it your practice to withdraw attention from past and future whenever they are not needed (for practical everyday matters). If you find it hard to enter the Now directly, start by observing the habitual tendency of your mind to want to escape from the Now. The moment you realize you are not present, you ‘are’ present. Whenever you are able to observe your mind, you are no longer trapped in it. Another factor has come in, something that is not of the mind: the witnessing presence. Don’t judge or analyse what you observe. Watch the thought, feel the emotion, observe the reaction. You will then feel the still, observing presence itself behind the content of your mind, the silent watcher. –The Power of Now p.44-46.

Think only about what is holy. Empty your mind. If we let our minds wander, we will come up with a lot of junk. We cannot stop thinking, but we can choose what to think about. The Elders say we move towards what we think about. That’s why they say, ‘Think about what is holy, and think about good’. –Elders Meditations | More…

Great Spirit, direct my thinking today. Feed my roots. “The most important thing now is to reveal the inner temple of the soul with right thinking and right activity.” ––Willaru Huayta, QUECHUA NATION, PERU

The key to growing a strong tree is to have a good system of roots and to feed the roots with good medicine. If we put poison in the root system, it will affect the tree, and it will become obvious to the rest of the forest what is being fed to the roots. This is also true of the human being. We need to feed our roots with right thinking. If our thinking is right, it will become obvious to the rest of the people. We don’t need to tell people about ourselves with our mouth because our actions always tell them. –Elders Meditations

God never opens doors that have been closed. He opens other doors, but He reminds us that there are doors which we have shut, doors which need never have been shut, imaginations which need never have been sullied. Never be afraid when God brings back the past. Let memory have its way. It is a minister of God with its rebuke and chastisement and sorrow. God will turn the “might have been” into a wonderful culture for the future. –My Utmost for His Highest | More…

In recovery, I’ve learned that being alone and listening to my own thinking almost always leads to trouble. I was taught early on that my thinking is distorted by the disease of alcoholism. My best hope for right action and happiness is to run my thoughts by my sponsor and others in the program. Once I let others in, the committee disappears, and I am restored to sanity. Today, I recognize the danger of being alone and outnumbered. –Wisdom Of The Rooms |More…

The thoughts of yesterday or of last year do not matter now, because if you can get the present thoughts right it will make everything else right here and now. The best way to prepare for tomorrow is to make today’s consciousness serene and harmonious. –Emmet Fox

The greatest obstacle to the internal nature is the mind. If it relies on logic…the domain of the inner nature is inaccessible. The simple fact is a man does not challenge the wisdom of the Holy Mystery. We use the Great Mystery and see it unfold only under the direction of the Great Spirit. The Creator is in charge. Whatever you hold in your mind will tend to occur in your life.
If you continue to believe as you have always believed, you will continue to act as you have always acted.

If you continue to act as you have always acted, you will continue to get what you have always gotten.

If you want different results in your life or your work, all you have to do is change your mind. –Anonymous

You move toward and become that which you think about. So the question for today is, what are you thinking about? Are you thinking bad things about yourself or are you thinking good things about yourself? We need to bring our thoughts into the NOW, right here. -Elders Meditations | More…
