Now we can take an inventory of the good things that have come to us through A.A. Sobriety to us is like good-will in business. Everything else depends on that. –24 Hours | More…

A spot-check inventory taken in the midst of disturbances can be of very great help in quieting stormy emotions. Today’s spot check finds its chief application to situations which arise in each day’s march. The quick inventory is aimed at our daily ups and downs, especially those where people or new events throw us off balance and tempt us to make mistakes. –As Bill Sees It | More… (p.132)

The alcoholic has to continue to take inventory every day if he expects to get well and stay well. –Big Book p.293-4  | More…

Our program calls for a “searching and fearless” moral inventory. What this means is complete honesty about who and what we really are.

We should not tap-dance around our problems in order to evade responsibility. This will not bring the cleansing we need for real sober living.

We need deep changes, not mere surface ones. Difficult as it is to be fully honest, it’s made easier when we remind ourselves that it’s all for our own recovery.

We benefit in proportion to the amount of honesty we bring to our inventory. If it’s searching and fearless, the results will be far-reaching and substantial. –Walk In Dry Places/Mel B. 27/07 | More…

The moral inventory is a cool examination of the damages that occurred to us during life and a sincere effort to look at them in a true perspective. This has the effect of taking the ground glass out of us, the emotional substance that still cuts and inhibits.

In my recovery, I learned that the pain of my defects is the very substance God uses to cleanse my character and to set me free. –Daily Reflections | More…

It is often said that you can’t tell a book by its cover. For many of us, our “covers” or surface records haven’t looked all that bad;  it seemed at first, that making an inventory would be a breeze.”

As we proceeded, we were dismayed to discover that our “covers” were relatively blemish-free only because we’d deeply buried our defects beneath layers of self-deception. For that reason, self-searching can be a long-term process; it must go on for as long as we remain blind to the flaws that ambushed us into addiction and misery. –A Day At A Time | More…

A good tree is known by its fruits. By that standard, the 12 Step movement fares very well.

We can apply that same statement to new ideas as they appear in our lives. We should always be wary of ideas that go counter to the basic principles of our program. Evaluating ideas “by their fruits” is a good test. –Walk In Dry Places/Mel B. | More…

I need to remember this in the recovery program for my life. A big part of my life was spent denying that I had a problem. The process of self-love and acceptance began in my cry for help. Surrender brought me sanity. –Father Leo | More…

We review our past performance and our present behavior to see what we want to keep and what we want to discard. As each day ends, we find it beneficial to take some moments to spend time with our Higher Power. We can begin to reflect on what will benefit our program of spiritual growth most in the coming day. We think about the areas in which we have grown recently, and target areas that still require work. What more fitting way to end the day? –Just For Today | More…
