A.A. – Altered Attitudes

We
can’t control the events of our lives, but we do have mastery over our attitudes.
The chances will be many, today, to react negatively or positively to circumstances we find ourselves in.

A positive attitude seems to breed positive experiences.
A negative attitude seems to breed negative experiences.

In other words, we attract into our lives that which we expect.
The Serenity Prayer offers us all the knowledge, all the wisdom we’ll ever need.

We can accept what has to be, change what we can, and not get confused between the two.
We can inventory our attitude.

Are we taking charge of it?

Some of us never liked close competition. We preferred to be clear winners or not to compete at all. This attitude kept us from doing our best, and we made a mistake when we thought we were competing with others.

Once we accept the idea of self-improvement, we can delight in competition. We can take satisfaction in situations where, though we were not number one, we came in a close second instead of a sullen last.–Walk In Dry Places/Mel B. | More…

Attitude is a direction which we follow.
If you have a positive attitude, it means you will lean towards a positive direction.

If you have a negative attitude, it means you will lean away from the Spirit. Therefore, if we lean toward spiritual values, then our actions will become significant and important.

If we lean away from spiritual values, our actions will become insignificant or unimportant. For example, if we value love, we will lean towards it; we will prefer to express and embrace it. –Elders Meditations| More…ddIVIDER LINE
Our drinking experience should have taught us that we’ll continue to repeat old destructive behaviors until we change our attitudes. A changed attitude helped us recover from our drinking problem, so can a new attitude keep us from repeating other destructive situations. –Walk In Dry Places/Mel B. | More…

Our best thinking got us into trouble….  Recovery is an active change in our ideas and attitudes. Our attitudes and our ideas are the eyeglasses through which we see our lives.

If our attitudes aren’t well focused, the whole world appears distorted. To insure our vision of life is in focus, we have to bring our ideas in line with reality. –Just For Today | More…

When we are honest with ourselves, we frequently find that the problem lies with us and our attitude. We have no control over the challenges life gives us.

What we can control is how we react to those challenges.
At any point in time, we can change our attitude.

The only thing that really changes in Alcoholics Anonymous is us.
Throughout the day, I will check my attitude. –Each Day A New Beginning/Karen Casey 28/10 | More…

We achieve self-acceptance through the process of ongoing recovery. Working the Twelve Steps of Narcotics Anonymous teaches us to accept ourselves and our lives. Spiritual principles like surrender, honesty, faith, and humility help relieve us of the burden of our past mistakes. Our attitude changes with the application of these principles in our daily lives. Self-acceptance grows as we grow in recovery. –Just For Today | More…

We can also use the steps to improve our attitudes. Our best thinking got us into trouble. We recognize the need for change. Because we had kept coming back, because we had kept working the steps, our perception changed. The person who’d plagued us had become “tolerable” because we’d developed some tolerance; he or she had become “likeable” because we’d developed the ability to love. –Just For Today | More…ddIVIDER LINE
